Is Discrimination A Bad Thing Essay - 1916 Words
Whether they know it or not everyone has either discriminated against someone or been discriminated against and in todayââ¬â¢s world people seem to shy away or hide from anything dealing with discrimination in fear of legal action. What a lot of people donââ¬â¢t know is that discrimination isnââ¬â¢t always a bad thing, everyone including myself, has done it to some degree but that doesnââ¬â¢t make us terrible awful people or racist/sexist or some other form of X-ist, it means we recognize or understand the difference between one thing and another. However it definitely is a subject treading on thin ice legally when you look at it from an HR perspective, if there is any vulnerability with a structured process in HR people will seek out a law suit. While focusing on HR more than anything Iââ¬â¢d like to break discrimination into three main topics; known, unknown, and uncalled for. What I mean by known discrimination is things we do every day and know we are doing. For ex ample when in a conversation with someone you will pick topics based on what you know or observe about that person. When talking with a co-worker you may see a special coffee mug or gift they have which could be an excellent transition or ice breaker. Even if you donââ¬â¢t know the person discriminating observations can assist you in getting to know them better. With a male you might talk about a favorite sports team or hobbies they enjoy.
